We decided for Alibaug trip in such a jiffy that I
was still wondering about my packing and essentials when we took a cab from
Vikroli for Gateway of India.
We had decided on a 4:15 pm Ferry from Gateway of India to Mandwa port.
(Not sure if it’s the village from Agni path movie).

There is no provision for pets and vehicles, if you want to take your
vehicle along in the boat try Bhow-cha-dhaka(ferry wharf).
Mandwa port was such a relief from the hustle bustle of Gateway of India. We reached around 5:30 pm and took our free bus ride for alibaug (bus service comes free with ferry tickets :D ).
That’s when it dawned upon us that we had forgotten to book a place to stay.. duuh!!!!
We decided
on a home stay at Kihim beach, since almost everything else was booked being a weekend.
Place to stay is not worth mentioning for its facilities however it was located
a stone’s throw away from the sea.Sound of the
sea.......wow! Heaven...
After an
amazing stroll and an average dinner on the beach, we decided to crash in our
below average room.
We got up around 7 in the morning for a walk around the
beach.
I have
always loved beaches in the morning. There are fewer people on the beach and
you can totally trace your footsteps back. Also sea is usually much calmer as if
patiently waiting for the sun to come up.
Wooooo!!!!!!!!!!
That’s where we were sitting last night was our first reaction. Beach was not
very clean and the sand was sludge like. However sea had
receded a lot from the night before and we could see the beautiful patterns it
made.
By the time we got ready, sea had already reached the
compound wall of the house again. It was already 10 am and we had only few
hours left for our evening ferry back to Mumbai. On the recommendation of our
auto guy we decided to visit Nagaon beach.
This beach is around 7 to 10 kms from the city centre. It’s
very famous for its water sports and that’s why quite popular with tourists.
This crowd usually stays near the water sports area, so rest
of the beach is very quiet and serene. (Minus the heat and humidity)
There is lot more to see in alibaug - http://www.tripadvisor.in/Attractions-g1010231-Activities-Alibaug_Maharashtra.html.
However we did not have enough time and so we headed back to
the port. This time we took non AC deck tickets of the ferry and it was soooooo
worth it ...
and thats how our journey ended.
Interesting .. wud love to read more bout this trip of urs Ashi .. n excited see Alibaug n its beauty through ur eyes... keep writing.
